Blue sky is framed by the innumerable intricate panes of glass of a domed ceiling. Porticos and arches, ornamental ironwork railings, Old Master frescoes, and ornate details carved in relief create a visual feast of masterful architecture. This is a contemporary photograph of a magnificent historical building: Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan, Italy, one of the world’s oldest shopping malls. The soaring sightlines and myriad perspectives create a disorienting time warp — we could be in a futuristic utopia just as well a steampunk fantasy.
