Mysterious shadowy shapes are overlaid with a veil of rippled vertical lines that create a fabric-like surface. The velvety blackness of the rectangular mass at center draws our gaze, an effect that’s emphasized by the lighter sections that frame it, radiating outward towards the corners of the screen. The artist makes his images by constructing small objects out of paper, wood and plastic, and then scanning them. He then layers and manipulates the scans to create new, abstracted impressions. The end result is an enigmatic composition of positive and negative space, light and shadow, pattern and form.
