Still Life with Jug and African Bowl by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner

Still Life with Jug and African Bowl, 1912

Ernst Ludwig Kirchner

Deep blue interlocking shapes, like gears in a mysterious mechanical system, fill your screen. This abstract digital composition looks like something you’d find in a museum, something an artist might have created in paint. In fact, the media used were not paint and canvas, but analog TV static, some of which represents thermal radiation left over from our universe’s moment of inception, the “Big Bang.” By adjusting the static and experimenting with various channels and settings, Doble unearths the vast range of visual imagery, colorful shapes, and geometric patterns embedded within the screen.
