James Henry Daugherty

A colossal barefooted, bare-breasted woman strides through the center of this riotous abstract mural. The figure’s huge right foot treads on tilting ground, thick with vegetation that seems to be bursting from the earth. Her outstretched left hand opens skyward, as if receiving a bounteous offering. Her flowing blue dress suggests classical grandeur, yet the upper half of the painting explodes into a kaleidoscope of colorful, tightly-packed fragments.
