The courtyard of Alcázar Palace, the city of Seville's most splendid example of Moorish architecture, sparkles in the dappled summer sunlight. A canopy of lush green foliage deepens to blue in the afternoon shadows, throwing blue sparkles onto the terra cotta stone of the walkway. The same blue is intensified in the tiles of the steps in the background. Colored, ever-changing reflections animate the scene and help to define the forms. In this composition, natural elements harmonize with the graceful architecture, providing a perfect subject for an artist concerned with creating an atmosphere full of contrasts in texture, color and light.
