Galleria Sciarra by Massimo Cuomo

Galleria Sciarra, 2016

Massimo Cuomo

The photographer must have captured this soaring view by lying on his back, pointing his camera upwards into the iron and glass roof of the magnificent Art Nouveau courtyard of the Galleria Sciarra in Rome. Built by the wealthy Sciarra family, every inch of its walls are covered with painted frescoes and elaborate decoration. It’s hard to see in this inverted view, but the paintings, with one exception, show women: the first row represents the stages of life and the second depicts feminine virtues such as loyalty, patience, modesty and kindness.
