Moira Ness

Twin trees mirror each other on top of a grassy hill. Their shapes are enigmatic, with protruding unbalanced limbs; could these both be occurring in nature? This image is in fact the artist’s creation. She subtly montages elements of a photograph then blends them seamlessly into the natural background to create a slightly surreal scene. Here, the mirrored tree limb creates an uncanny ring on the horizon. Conceptually, this piece visually represents philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche's notion of the eternal return, the belief that all events in cosmic history will continue to repeat in an endless cycle.
