Lacy designs in velvety green interlock and diverge, reaching tendrils in every direction. Crystalline white adorns the central ridges, while delicate tan lines lead toward a section of turquoise blue, at left. While we know this is a satellite photograph, it’s easy to admire it as textured, complex abstract composition. This is a view of Olympic National Park in northwestern Washington. The blue shape in the lower left corner is the rocky Pacific shoreline. The largest snowy patch at center is the 7,900 foot-high Mount Olympus. This lush landscape is kept green by the rain, snow, and mist that fall on it all year.
