Abstract shapes, segmented into grids of rectangles, are threaded together by snaking lines of light. This could be a shiny folk-art textile design, or a free-form appliquéd pattern. What we’re actually looking at is the greater New York City metropolitan area at night, shot from the International Space Station. In this stunning image, New York’s grid-like streets and highways, lit up in rusty orange, contrast with the dark waterways that surround it. But forgetting for a moment that this is New York, you can lose yourself in the intricacy of these juxtaposed lines and shapes.
