Crossed Lines, 2016

Olavo Azevedo

Stalks of wild grass, some sturdy, some delicate enough to bend under the weight of a seedpod, are transformed into an abstract network of lines and shapes. It’s as if we’re looking at a plant specimen through the viewfinder of a microscope: bright white shapes against a black ground. The artist quotes American photographer Edward Weston in describing his approach: “We will be able to look out on a new light-world, a world that lies waiting to be discovered and revealed.”
