Paulo Abrantes

Stair-step layers of stark black and white are juxtaposed in tilting angles in this graphical photographic composition. At first glance, it looks entirely abstract, but in fact, this image shows the façade of a museum in Portugal. It’s hard to assess what we’re looking at here — is this a painting on the museum’s outside wall, or an abstract piece of architecture, perhaps photographed from above? The artist is inspired by legendary street photographer David Alan Harvey, who wrote, “Don’t shoot what it looks like. Shoot what it feels like.”
