Peter Shellenberger

A lone figure stands in a sea of sagebrush in the Nevada desert at night, strangely caught in a blinding flash of light. The artist toys with the viewer’s visual perception, transforming the ordinary into the surreal. He used a large format camera, long exposure times, and powerful flash bulb lighting to create this ethereal monochromatic scene. The artist was influenced by Nikola Tesla’s mysterious experiments with electricity, blending ideas drawn from history, technology and science to create this mysterious, haunting image.
