The River by Roberto Marchegiani

The River, 2016

Roberto Marchegiani

Braided skeins of brilliant water intertwine like veins, or the gnarled branches of an ancient tree in this image by an Italian landscape photographer. A pearly gray sky at the top of the frame is a study in contrasts, from the thin wisps of clouds above, to a white stripe of light, to a soft, opaque roll of fog. The dark horizon below the sky is a clean, razor-sharp line. On either side of the river’s path, canyons of indeterminate depth are veiled in rich black shadows. Raised surfaces glitter where water drops meet sunlight streaking through the clouds.
