Palimpsest #4, 2014

Sean Capone

Drips, splatters and calligraphic lines morph and merge before our eyes, like watching an artist in the process of creation. The forms spread like ink blots or streak like meteors, sometimes faster, sometimes slowly. It’s fascinating to watch just one section as it evolves, or unfocus your eyes to take in the whole. This video piece takes its title from a word that means, “something altered but still bearing visible traces of its earlier form,” which speaks to the nature of this work: a process unfolding in real time.
