Sean Capone

Graphic forms collide with painterly gestures —drips, brush strokes, blots of paint — that expand into blossoms of confetti-like colors in this vibrant visual symphony. The artist sets a range of abstract forms into linear and rotational motion. A series of spirals draws our eye into an apparently three-dimensional vortex of swirling color. Shapes and marks fold inward on themselves, like origami sculptures in progress. Capone is inspired by early abstraction: nonrepresentational art that aimed to translate the expressiveness of sound and spirituality into visual compositions, like the work of Vassily Kandinsky. In this 21st-century approach to that style, Capone creates software that generates abstract imagery that produces endless imaginative possibilities.
