Quarry Bay, Hong Kong by Stephen Wei

Quarry Bay, Hong Kong, 2016

This image might give you a sense of vertigo, as if you could fall backwards up these buildings into the sky. It’s hard to see, without careful looking, what’s up or down, and whether these walls of high-density apartments are turned on their sides, artificially placed, or simply artfully shot and presented. The photographer specializes in tall views of Hong Kong buildings, presented in geometric panoramas that give a visceral sense of the jam-packed living quarters and skyscraping office buildings of one of the most densely-populated places in the world.
