On this world, a rounded boulder hangs in midair, casting its shadow over glassy water, or perhaps a frozen sea. A second rock, cut in half in some distant geological process, breaks the surface of the water-ice, while behind, low above the horizon, a pale, ghostly daytime moon hangs suspended. The entire scene is suffused with bright light, the kind landscape painters favor. The artist first sets up a virtual environment by placing natural elements into a CGI landscape, then captures viewpoints, adjusts and renders. It’s a highly technical process, but it all starts in the limitless space of the artist’s imagination.
