This enigmatic photograph looks every bit like a giant bird’s nest. Sticks are built up, nest-like; it only lacks an eagle to complete the scene. But this image is in fact a view of the mouth of Eagles Nest Geyser in New Zealand. This now-dormant geyser sat in a clump of trees on a point over the bank of a stream. The sticks that surround it were coated with silica crystals from the geyser’s steam, which soaked them regularly with 10-foot eruptions every half hour.
