Charles Clifford

A pioneer in the then emerging field of photography, Clifford (1820–1863) lived and worked in Madrid, Spain becoming one of the leading photographers of his day. He became known for his photographs of landscapes with his eye for architectural details and illuminated compositions. He became the Spanish court photographer and documented Spain’s public works and monuments, and Queen Isabella of Spain frequently gave away presentation albums of Clifford's photographs further circulating his photographs across Europe.
