Charles Marville

Remembered for his architectural photographs, Marville (1813–1879) was the official photographer of Paris, France. He photographed the ancient Parisian neighborhoods before the 19th century modernization of the city. Marville’s photographic excellence led him to become the photographer to the Louvre Museum in Paris, and he made a living by photographing reproductions of artworks and through his architectural photographs.
