Our Art / David Arms
An artist specializing in collaged narratives, Arms work relays rich narratives through lavish visual symbolism, allowing for the viewer to find something new upon each view. Trained in video production before moving to fine arts, he derives inspiration from religious iconography, narrative paintings by Hieronymus Bosch, and Where’s Waldo through telling stories in a single instance: think of a feature length film compressed into a single frame. Like many collage artists, David uses his artwork as a means of both expression and of self-therapy, touching on topics from human rights issues to romance to his own experiences with epilepsy. Often while arranging the elements of each piece, subconscious emotions will arise and give light to sentiments that otherwise would prove to be inaccessible. Thus each piece is a exercise in vocalizing the waking mind and the subliminal.
