Our Art / ESO
Founded in 1962, the European Southern Observatory (ESO) is Europe’s leading primary astronomy institution. The institution provides state-of-the-art research facilities to astronomers and astrophysicists from around the world. It is the world's most productive astronomical observatory, building and operating a suite of the world's most powerful ground-based telescopes. The world class optical and computational power at ESO allows them to create remarkable videos from alternative perspectives of our world and the origins of the universe. While the headquarters are located in Germany, the ESO operates astronomical facilities located on high mountain tops in the Atacama Desert of northern Chile.
